Bushbury entertained Alwood from Leeds on Sunday April 1st in the National Club Intermediate Plate. The team of Richard Parry, Pete Baggott, Phil Staley and Alf Schroeder going down 1 - 3. The match was a lot closer than the score suggests. We wish our visitors good luck in the next round.

Congratulations to South Birmingham 'A' who have won Division 1 of the Birmingham League.

A weakened 'A' team, 3 of the usual top four boards were missing, went down fighting 2 - 4 to Walsall in Wolverhamton Division 1.

The 3 adjourned games were never played! I arrived at the club to cheer the team on only to find that John Stanforth had resigned without resuming play and the other two games had been agreed as draws. The match was therefore drawn. Busbhury 'A' move up to 9 points in Division 1 which should be enough to ensure another season in the top flight.

The Birmingham Divison 3 match at St.Georges was drawn 3 - 3. Phil was very pleased with the result.

The 3 adjourned games against Birmingham 'C' are being played on Wednesday 14th March at Bushbury. Come along and show your support!

Walsall Kipping v Bushbury 'A'

Bushbury have come out on top aftera close match at Walsalls new venue. Four matches finisihed on the night with three draws and a win for Bushbury. John Staniforth defeated Dave Pritchard who after resigning couldn't quite work out where he had lost a piece! Dave Cooper and Lee Grinsell adjourned with a loss and a win looking likely. So it was. Dave resigning to Jana Bellin and Darren Wheeler resigning to Lee. Bushbury took the match 3.5 - 2.5.

Bushbury 'A' v South Birmingham 'C'

National Club Championship Intermediate Section

Bushbury travelled to Liverpool on the 19th February to play Prescott and Knotty Ash. Team - Richard Parry, Phil Staley, Pete Baggott, Alf Schroeder.

Disaster In Diddy Land!

We lost 3.5 -0.5.! Not quite to plan. A four board match is always tricky and so it proved. After about an hour and a half Phil had lost and Pete was a pawn down in one of those positions that lacked chances for counterplay. Alf was a rook up. Richard , in a level position, had to play for a win and hope that Pete could draw his game. Pete did indeed draw but Alf lost and so did Richard! Ah well - it's only a game. The trip back down the M6 was quiet.

Bushbury 'B' Boost Survival Hopes In Wolverhampton Division 2

Hopes of avoiding relegation from Wolverhampton Division 2 were boosted by a win over rivals Walsall Kipping. Playing at Bushbury the team came through 4 - 2 to record their second win of the season.
